Steel sheet pile is hot‑rolled or cold‑formed steel section with interlocking locks. Individual piles interlock with each other to form continuous retaining and water‑cut‑off wall. Main steel grades Q235B, Q355B, S355GP. Supply conditions: black hot‑rolled finish, sand‑blasted, anti‑corrosion coated. Can be extracted and reused. Two main categories: hot‑rolled sheet pile and cold‑formed sheet pile. U‑type (Larssen) is the world’s most widely used profile. Widely applied for cofferdams, foundation pit support, quay bulkheads, river levees, flood‑control and land reclamation projects, key export infrastructure product.

Main product distinctions

U‑type (Larssen) sheet pile: U‑shaped cross‑section, locks at both flange ends. Highly versatile for straight and curved walls. First choice for temporary cofferdams and pit support. Main export types: Type II, Type III, Type IIIA, Type IV. ‑Z‑type sheet pile: Z‑shaped profile, locks on outer flanges. High section modulus and bending resistance. For deep‑water ports, deep foundation pits and heavy‑duty permanent hydraulic works. Suitable for long straight walls, poor for curved layouts. ‑Straight web sheet pile: Flat profile with locks on both ends. Used for box‑composite walls and corner sections of cofferdams. ‑Cold‑formed sheet pile: Cold roll‑formed, uniform thickness. Low‑cost for small‑scale temporary works. Water‑tightness of interlocks inferior to hot‑rolled sheet piles.

1. Main Types

1. By manufacturing process

‑Hot‑rolled sheet pile: High‑temperature rolling, precise locks, excellent water‑tightness. Preferred for large‑scale, permanent and hydraulic export projects. ‑Cold‑formed sheet pile: Cold roll bending. Flexible cut‑to‑length, lower cost, mainly for domestic temporary jobs.

2. By material grade

‑Q235B: General inland temporary cofferdams and foundation pits. ‑Q355B / S355GP: Deep‑water, quay sites, high soil‑water pressure conditions. ‑A690: Marine salt‑spray corrosion, permanent marine structures.

3. By surface condition

‑Black hot‑rolled finish: Standard export delivery, anti‑corrosion applied on‑site. ‑Sand‑blasted; ‑Paint / heavy‑duty anti‑corrosion coating: for marine and highly corrosive environments.

4. Typical dimensions

Hot‑rolled U‑type: Type II, III, IIIA, IV; single width 400‑600 mm; thickness 8‑15.5 mm. Z‑type: Z‑12, Z‑18, Z‑26, Z‑38. Length: 6‑18 m, custom cut‑to‑length available. HS‑code:7301100000.

2. Production Process

Hot‑rolled: Steel billet reheating → multi‑pass hot rolling → lock forming → straightening → cut‑to‑length sawing → dimension & lock‑fit inspection → bundling. Cold‑formed: Steel coil uncoiling → cold roll forming → lock processing → cutting → straightening → inspection → packing.

3. Key Features

‑Hot‑rolled U‑type (Larssen): Tight interlocking locks for reliable water‑stop; can construct curved corners; extractable & reusable for multiple cycles; cost‑effective, preferred for export orders. ‑Z‑type: High section modulus and bending capacity; ideal for deep‑water heavy‑duty straight walls; difficult for curved layouts. ‑General notes: Continuous wall formed by interlocking locks, no site welding required; applicable for temporary or permanent hydraulic structures. Lock dimensional accuracy, thickness and mill test certificate are critical quality indexes for export. ‑Limitations: Cold‑formed piles have poorer water‑tightness, not recommended for deep‑water projects. Marine service requires heavy anti‑corrosion coating. Avoid lock damage during handling & storage.

4. Typical Applications

Port & quay bulkheads; river‑sea cofferdams; deep foundation pit support for buildings & metro; river regulation & levee reinforcement; flood emergency works; coastal land reclamation; trench support for utility tunnels. Ordinary temporary pit / cofferdam: Hot‑rolled U‑type Larssen Type III / IV. Deep‑water heavy‑duty quay: Z‑type. Marine corrosive environment: Grade A690 plus heavy‑duty coating.

5. Standards

‑China: GB/T 20933‑2021 Hot‑rolled steel sheet piles; JG/T 196‑2018 Steel sheet piles; GB/T 29654 Cold‑formed steel sheet piles.

6. Selection Guidance

  1. General foundation‑pit & cofferdam: prefer hot‑rolled U‑type Larssen sheet pile. Deep‑water heavy‑duty quay: Z‑type.
  2. Material: Q235B for inland general works; Q355B / S355GP for high‑water‑pressure hydraulic projects; A690 for marine conditions.
  3. For export orders confirm profile model, section parameters, thickness, single width, cut‑length, steel grade, lock tolerance. Require MTC certificate EN10204‑3.1.
